The Idan Raichel Project Announces US Tour

August 23, 2013 —
Sixteen-Date US Tour Begins October 9th

“The idea that one could create a cohesive album by pulling together unique voices singing in different languages and from different musical traditions would seem daunting. Yet this challenge is what Israeli keyboardist and composer Idan Raichel has embraced and brought to blossom.” - The Washington Post
The Idan Raichel Project brings its acclaimed live concert experience to the United States this October for a sixteen-city tour that sees the multicultural ensemble performing at prestigious venues such as Royce Hall in Los Angeles, The Beacon Theater in New York, Lisner Auditorium in Washington, DC and others. The tour is the group's first since the international release of their latest album Quarter to Six (Cumbancha) in June, which has continued their ten-year streak of top-selling and critically acclaimed recordings. The Idan Raichel Project have become global ambassadors representing a hopeful world in which artistic collaboration breaks down barriers between people of different backgrounds and beliefs.
The leader of this inspiring collective of musicians from a wide variety of cultural origins is Idan Raichel, a composer, keyboardist and producer who is now a household name in his native Israel. In 2006, the US-based record label Cumbancha released a compilation of the group’s first two albums worldwide, bringing even more renown to this inspirational collective. Billboard Magazine called The Idan Raichel Project “One of the most fascinating titles to emerge in world music this year…a multi-ethnic tour de force.” The New York Times selected the album as one of the top world music releases of the year, and media from Peru to Portugal was unanimous in their praise.  The album also received a nomination as one of the best world music albums of the year by the BBC Radio 3 Award for World Music.
In the past four years, Raichel has co-written numerous songs and toured with GRAMMY winner India.Arie, performed at the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony in Oslo, Norway, co-written a song calling for racial harmony with Israeli President and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shimon Peres, performed for President Obama and family at the Kennedy Center on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, performed at the ceremony inaugurating the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington DC, sold out shows at Radio City Music Hall and other major venues worldwide, toured India, South America and Africa and released the highly praised Tel Aviv Session album with Malian guitarist Vieux Farka Touré. In July of this year, Idan joined pop star Alicia Keys on stage as a special guest during her concert in Tel Aviv. In August, French star Patrick Bruel met and performed with Idan during his visit in Israel.  The instant chemistry between them led to a moving performance on stage.
The Idan Raichel Project's latest album, Quarter To Six, was released on Cumbancha on June 4, 2013. It debuted at number 1 on the iTunes World Music Chart and has been touted as one of the best albums of the year.  The media response has been overwhelmingly positive with features in Relix, CBC Music, and a positive review by The Associated Press, which was featured by over 50 major media outlets including The Washington Post, The Huffington Post, and The Seattle Times. The album features guest appearances by Portuguese fado star Ana Moura, Palestinian-Israeli singer Mira Awad, German counter-tenor Andreas Scholl, Colombia’s Marta GómezVieux Farka Touré and a selection of some of Israel’s top up-and-coming singers and musicians.
The Project’s spectacular live show has enchanted audiences worldwide. They have headlined in some of the world’s most prestigious venues, including New York's Central Park Summer Stage, Apollo Theater, Town Hall and Radio City Music Hall, Los Angeles’ Kodak Theater, the Sydney Opera House, Zenith and Bataclan in Paris, London’s Royal Albert Hall and many international festivals. They have also performed across Europe, South & Central America, Hong Kong, Singapore, India, Ethiopia, South Africa, Ghana and dozens of other countries for enraptured audiences of all backgrounds.
Don’t miss this opportunity to catch live what the Boston Globe calls “a fascinating window into the young, tolerant, multi-ethnic Israel taking shape away from the headlines.”

"[This is an] elegant, acoustic-led album of songs with a gentle, devotional feel." - The Boston Globe
"The Idan Raichel Project has become one of the most important musical groups in Israel..." - CBC Music
“If music is indeed the international language, then Raichel is on track to becoming one of the world’s top linguists” – Performer Magazine
"With subtle, yet profoundly moving grace, Raichel displays a sense of musical awareness I haven’t heard since Peter Gabriel...Where I would struggle to identify specific standout songs, I quickly realize they are all as transcending as the next. The sheer awesomeness that is Quarter to Six has me sitting in appreciation from beginning to end, unlike anything I’ve experienced in recent memory.  The Idan Raichel Project is as impactful to your inner humanity as it is profound and elegant. - Nanobot Rock Reviews
"Whether it's traditional or modern Raichel is a master of bringing it all together with intimacy, personality, drama and thoughtfulness." - The Pop Stereo Reviews
"Raichel composes delicious melodies and he possesses a loving and peaceful heart which comes through in his performances here." - The Whole Music Experience
"This impressive cast of dynamic artists bring the sounds of their cultures with them and enhance Quarter to Six immensely. Raichel’s compositions and arrangements are engaging and diverse. While this is a softer record than the Project is known for, it is just as compelling." - Splinters & Candy
